Knit
Lighting out of recycled PET
The "Knit" lighting is made out of recycled PET. The closed loop shape of this light is meant to work in correlation with the 3D printing machine. The structure of the object follows a "vase-mode" process in order to print continuously without interruption. This process saves time and energy. The organic and soft curves of the light are in contrast with repetitive perpendicular stratification lines marked by the printer, which play a role in the refraction of the light. The process is part of the aesthetic language of the object and manifest the importance attached to its materials.

Roll It
Measuring Tool

Roll it
A smart digital measuring tool
A meter is on of our most ancient object of our tooling box. For architectures, sciences, and many disciplines measuring is one of the early inevitable task that takes part of the study of a space. Calculation is a whole set of coordinates that can also be considered today as data points. "Roll it" is taking these measurements in memory and help you keep track of all your essential data point needed in your study. Whether it comes to short a long distance measurements or circumferences, "Roll it" is equipped with a traditional meter, a laser and a flexible measuring wire. All your data is shared on your online measuring account and can be sorted in different folders following your projects.

0.6 Chair

0.6 Chair
A mix of carbon and wood
Design and develop a new process of wood lamination with a carbon fiber reinforcement. The aim of this project is to design a higly perfoming wooden chair with a minumum of material bringing the thickness under 0.6cm and a lightness under 2kg. Europe and North America account for about two thirds of the global production and consumption of sawnwood (which hovers at 500 million cubic meters a year) with an estimated $40 trillion according to an FAO report. In the last 300 years we have cut about 40% of global forests following WWF. Based on historical trends, the production and consumption of wood products are expected to increase. OECD speaks about a wood harvesting grew by 20% between 1980 and 2008. Across the board, wooden chairs weigh between 6 and 15kg, which means that it is important to design long-lasting products and reduce the quantity of wood per product to counterbalance this market trend. How to design strong wooden furniture with a minimum amount of wood? Laminated wood has been developed in the 1950s with Eames chairs and has shown great mechanical improvements for decades since. However, wood consumption since the 1950s has also drastically increased. We need to improve and design better with less material. 0.6 Chair is a dining chair and café chair with a new process of laminated wood. A combination of wood veneer and carbon fibre fabric highly reinforces the whole structure and brings down the thickness of this chair to only 0.6cm. Structural curves and angles in the design help this chair being incredibly strong and only requires 3 to 5 wooden veneers (depending of the thickness of the chosen veneer) with a total weight of under 2kg. The aim of this project was to create a piece with a minimum of material, a product often used but that manifest the fragility of our ecosystem and the preciosity of material. This chair is designed to be light, robust and that last longer.

Strat Collection
Recycled Furniture

Strat Collection
3D printed furniture out of recycled plastic waste
The "Strat" collection is made out of local recycled plastic that is 3D printed into furniture. the whole collection includes stools, lounge chairs, tables, lamps and other customizable pieces of furniture on request. the 3D printer developed by Colossus is portable and can be easily transported to areas where plastic waste is located. Joachim Froment Designed the full scale objects to be printed by a specific 3D printer in less than two hours. by reusing the plastic granule from recycled areas in belgium and Netherland, the designer aims to create products made of local recycled materials destined to be sold on a local market (in Europe) and offering a service to recycle the products in order to offer furniture that operates entirely within a circular economy. Designing together with the technology could compete with current industrial processes offering a potential new form of industrialization. the adaptable custom made products offer a new way to create sustainable objects. the chair and the other products of the collection has been designed to be 3D printed within a time frame and efficiently with the minimum material. The closed loop shape of this chair is adding mechanical strength to the structure but it follows also a ‘vase-mode’ process in order to print continuously without interruption. this process saves time and energy. the organic and soft curves of the chair evoke lightness in order to manifest the importance attached to its materials. the curved splines also improve the mechanical properties and are essential to reinforce the structure of the chair.

Ours Blanc
Glass

Ours Blanc
From liquid to ice
"Ours Blanc" is a collection of glass designed for Durobor inspired of the different metaphysical status of water. Despite the fact that the material remains from the same nature it is fascinating to observe how different the material express itself depending of its physical status. Water, ice and vapor are fundamentally communicating differently, changing our perception of this material and our experience around it. "Ours Blanc" aesthetic is composed of different transparencies. We see the material becoming more opaque in its solid status (ice), and more translucent in its liquid status but it also evoking different curves and tri-dimensional expressions which in this products was an attempt to grasp these aesthetics.
